The Gwinnett Bicentennial
The Gwinnett Bicentennial will be a one-year celebration of 200 years of our county’s history. The state of Georgia created Gwinnett County on December 15, 1818, naming it for Button Gwinnett, one of Georgia’s three signers of the Declaration of Independence.
From its humble beginnings as an agrarian community in the 1800s to its unprecedented growth as the second largest county in the state of Georgia, Gwinnett has a lot of milestones to celebrate throughout its 200-year history.
In preparation for the county’s bicentennial celebration, the Board of Commissioners formed a Bicentennial Advisory Committee comprised of citizen volunteers and supported by County staff.
